Part 1 The art of blending oils
Ancient Egyptians used to anoint their Kings and Queens for protection, health and power in life and also in many afterlife
rituals. Historical texts document the use of ritual oils in every culture since the beginning of time.
You see…Aromatherapy uses pure essential oils, to relax balance and rejuvenate body, mind and spirit. It is both
an art and a science. Aromatherapy can improve quality of life on a physical, emotional and spiritual level. The idea is to
find the scents that evoke positive feelings and emotions; and then to introduce those scents into our everyday lives to enhance
well-being.
Today, oils intended for spiritual purposes are widely available in occult shops and spiritual oil market, there are wide
differences in price, quality and manufacturing practices. Consumers can now base materials (like herbs and essential oils)
necessary to create their own magical oil. You’ll learn in the second part what are most important things what you should
know when buying oil (Get this right and you won’t spend your hard worked money on junk)
Typically Olive Oil was used as the base or carrier oil for formulas designed to bless, anoint to draw positive things.
Mineral Oil was used for formulas that command, compel or destroy. Mineral oil was also used for mineral-based oil like Magnet
and Lodestone. In recent ears, Sweet Almond Oil has become popular base oil for drawing positive blessings as it is light
in texture and scents more easily than heavy Olive Oil. The techniques used for instilling the base with the herbal properties
are quite varied.
Some times plant material is simply steed in the (cold) oil for an extended period of time. This is common for white, pink,
yellow and other light-colored condition oils. This steeping method is used in the creation of many Mystic Brand Spiritual
Oils. The herbs soak in the oil for 30 plus days in a cool dark location. They may be strained out (termed cold passed) through
a fine cloth or just left to float in the bottle.
For darker oils (brown, purple, black), herbs may be wrapped in muslin or cheesecloth and cooked in the oil to extract
their essence. I have seen and heard of workers employing a double-cook method for making oil. The herb materials are simmered
in oil for two-three hours, strained out and the resulting oil is allowed to cool. Then the process is repeated, cooking a
new batch of herbs in the same oil- therefore double-infusing the properties into the base. The resulting oil is then colored
for intent and scented with perfumed or essential oils.
Macerations is an age old method for creating magic oils. Herb materials are ground and placed in a mortar and pestle.
Enough base oil is poured over the ground herbs to cover them. The worker then begins pounding the herbal and spiritual properties.
The herb material is strained out of the oil base oil. The oil may be colored for intent and new, whole herbs added to each
bottle.
How to blend oils
Before you begin blending, analyze the various aroma profiles of the oils you want to work with by dispensing a drop of
oil on paper or unscented tissue. Concentrate, inhale and note your impressions. Build o file of notes for future reference.
Trust your impressions and experience of the oils. What so the aromas remind you of? How do they change and develop throughout
the various stages? How does the oil’s fragrance make you feel?
As you develop a descriptive picture of the oils, think about how they’ll work with each other in a blend. What part
of the oil do you want to work with? What effects do you want to enhance? What characteristics do you want to tone down?
Relaxing Essential Oil Blend
Imagine as “End of the Day Blend” to help you relax and unwind after a busy, stress-filled day. This blend
should be soothing and relaxing, but also uplifting to chase away the cares and worries of the day and give you a little boost
to carry you through an evening at home.
Two excellent relaxing oils are chamomile and lavender. Uplift oils include bergamot and lemon. A blend of these oils would
produce a light, sweet aroma with complex top and middle notes. The bargamot, lemon and chamomile would give this blend a
fruity sweetness. The lavender would make the sweetness a bit more floral-herbaceous. If you want the blend to be a little
sweet and more stimulating, a small amount of herbaceous, penetrating rosemary could be added. The relaxing, spicy-woody oil
of rosewood might serve as an effective base to this blend.
Common Sense Blending
Learn which oils match the benefit and aroma you’re looking for. Then experiment with quantities and combinations
until you create the blend you envision. Always keep notes on what you’re doing so when you hit upon that perfect blend
you can repeat your success.
You can charge an oil by censing it with incense. I like using Benzoin, Myrrh or Three Kings for this purpose. You can
also charge the bottle by holding it up to your Three Eye and focusing energy on it through creative visualization. Many oils
can be charged through the Elements or burying in the earth, or by exposing it to starlight or sunlight (remember essential
oils break down in light, so a little goes a long way).

How to purchase oil (tips)
Below are tips that can help you select pure, high quality oils:
Watch out for the words such as “fragrance oil”, “nature identical oil”, or “perfume oil”.
There words indicate that what you see is not a pure, single essential oil.
The term “pure essential oil” is overused in the aromatherapy industry. Pure essential oils can be distilled
from poor quality crops, be sitting in someone’s inventory or on a store’s shelves for years, be stored in a way
that damages the oils, or be mishandled by vendors so bottling. So, don’t get overly impressed by a vendor that labels
their as “pure”
Watch out for vendors that sell their oils for the same price. This doesn’t mean the oils are not pure or of good
quality, but it often does.
Organic oils may be superior to non-organic oils.
Be cautious about purchasing oils from vendor at street fairs, crafts shows, festivals or other limited-time events.
If you are comparing online vendors, send e-mail to them asking questions that you have.
Avoid oils that are sold in clear glass bottles as the clear glass can allow light to damage the essential oils. Instead,
buy oils that are stored in amber (brown) or other dark colored bottles.
